Team Bowling Methods

Team Bowling Methods

You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Bowling Games in the following paragraphs. If there's at least one fact you didn't know before, imagine the difference it might make.

Bowling can be played with one person against themselves, one person against another person or teams against each other. One game is made up of ten frames, with two throws per frame. When teams are playing, each bowler will take their frame in a predetermined order before the next frame starts. When the tenth frame begins, any player who knocks down all ten pins is allowed to throw a third ball.

Team versus Team

When your team plays another team, the same pair of lanes is used and play progresses frame by frame. The team with the most points at the end of the game, or series of games wins. They get two points for winning. In some cases, a team may score points by having the highest score for a series of three frames. In the Peterson version, each team gets one point for every 100 pins knocked down and the winning team gets 5 points.

Team versus Field

This is when your team plays all the other teams one by one. Each team receives one point for each game won. So if there were eight teams in the league and your team beat each one, you would be awarded 7 points.

Match Play

Match play is where each member of the team plays the corresponding member of the other team.

Each of these positions is worth 1 point, and the highest scoring team earns 3 bonus points.

Team members each bowl their own game, checking to test the condition of the lane before and throughout the entire game. The way the ball reacts to the lane will be of prime importance. Differences can be caused by the oil drying out over the duration of the game, or by the oil slick being carried further down the lane by the progress of the ball.

Dry lane conditions cause the ball to move away from its intended target. Team members can thus either move their entrance from one side to another, or change the target line of the ball. The oil pattern on the lane will vary according to what is being played, whether a tournament, open bowling or league. In some cases, team members are told about, or given a graph of, the oil pattern so that they know what to expect.

In Championships each bowler plays singles, doubles, trios and team events. There are 24 games, with six in each of the categories. Teams can be any number of people but 4 or 8 are the most usual.
